We are here to share our passion for craft beer, curating a selection of the best beers from the finest brewers we can find.
Our unquenchable thirst for the perfect beer has taken us from our hill top home in Yorkshire to Humble Sea Brewing Co in Santa Cruz in California, a town famed for uber-cool skateboards, 80’s classic vampire movie The Lost Boys and an epic surf scene, to Vancouver’s hip and historic Gastown, and on to Portland Oregon with its rich street food scene and incredible craft breweries such as the world beating Cascade Brewery. We hit the running trails in Colorado visiting Aspen Brewing with their award winning selection and sampled the best the Pacific North West Sunshine Coast has to offer at Powell River’s Townsite Brewing.
Though the North American craft beer scene is huge we now have gallons of incredibly exciting home grown brewing talent here in the UK which is what we aim to showcase here at Curators of Craft.
Our journey to reach this current state of ‘beervana’, as they say in Portland Oregon, began way back in 2014 during a sea kayaking trip to the Pacific North West. Upon walking into 6 Acres in Vancouver’s Gastown we were presented with a beer menu that read like a wine list, featuring evocative descriptions such as ‘nicely hopped in the mouth’ with ‘smooth but good chew’. We had stumbled upon a brave new world.
In the same defining year we were exposed to the many wonderful Trappist beers on offer in Bruges and Roubaix while taking on the classic cobbles of Paris-Roubaix and Flanders.
Returning to the Pacific Northwest to Kayak out from sleepy Anacortes for a few days in and around the San Juan Islands, we sampled the best craft beer Seattle and Portland had to offer. Upon doing so, we began to realise the vast range and complexity of the North American craft ale scene.
Back on home soil, craft beer was still in its adolescence, but on subsequent trips to British Columbia, Washington State, California, and then later Colorado, we could see the exponential growth of the UK craft beer scene in both scale and complexity to match those we had tasted across the pond.
The next part of our story is unwritten but we hope you’ll join us in raising a glass as we shine a light on the best craft beer from the finest independent brewers for your drinking pleasure.
