The first beer in the Northern Monk virtual trip to Russia sees their own interpretation on Kvass, a session strength beer traditionally brewed with rye bread across the Baltic states. They sourced wholemeal sourdough from local bakery Bluebird and built up a grist combining plenty of rye intertwined with oats and wheat as they do for their hazy IPA styles. After fermenting with their house Kveik strain they dry-hopped generously with Amarillo and El Dorado. The result is a lightly tangy session IPA with a complex spice from the bread and rye, a full mouthfeel of sweet orange flavours, and a pithy lemon finish.
